FURTHER EDUCATION
Do some voluntary work
If you’re just not sure what is the right route for you or want to find out about working in a particular area e.g. nursing or construction, then you could choose to take a year out and do some voluntary work or paid work for a year.
Get a job
Some young people just don’t want to go onto college or continue in education. You may want to go straight into a full time job. Talk to Surrey Connexions about the opportunities for work and look in your local papers to find out what sort of jobs are available to 16 year olds. You will probably start at a junior level and, if you are 16 or 17, you should be offered training on the job.
INFORMATION
REMEMBER
It’s never too late for education. If you decide you want to go to university and don’t have the qualifications then, once you are 19, you can do an ACCESS course at a local college. This course is 1 year full-time/2 years part-time and is accepted by universities as an entrance qualification.
