Partners - About Us

Aimhigher Surrey is part of a national programme which began in 2003 partnerships for progression. It seeks to promote access and develop progression in the 14-19 and 19+ age ranges to meet the target of 50% of all 18-30 year olds participating in higher education by 2010.

Students targeted by Aimhigher Surrey must meet all the following criteria:

  • They are capable students who have the ability to achieve at higher educational level and
  • They come from low income families and under-represented groups and
  • They have no immediate history of higher education.

Aimhigher Surrey works with schools and colleges to help them identify students aged 14-19 that meet the Aimhigher criteria. It then allocates funding to clusters of schools and colleges to enable these students to take part in a menu of Aimhigher Surrey activities. These could be taster days, master classes, or summer schools, for example, and all have information on accessing higher education.

Aimhigher Surrey also works with community groups, local education providers and employers and sector skills councils to identify adults aged 19+ who fit the Aimhigher criteria and develop programmes that offer clear progression for them. Schools, colleges and community groups are also encouraged to propose their own Aimhigher activities that Aimhigher Surrey may fund.

Aimhigher Surrey works with a considerable number of partners without which they could not have achieved the success they have had to date.
